Yaw Tog
Rapper, Yaw Tog, has received a lot of backlash from his followers for adopting British accent in his latest freestyle released days ago.
Titled ‘Me’, the young Kumasi-based rapper talks about his achievement since he shot to fame on the freestyle, as well as threw some punches to whom it may concern.
The freestyle follows his recent ‘My Time’ extended play (EP),which has been praised by Ghanaians and the rapper tagged as the newest rap sensation to keep looking out for from Ghana.
And that was courtesy his remix of his song titled ‘Sore’ featuring UK’s hip hop icon, Stormzy, and Ghana’s Kwesi Arthur.
A video for the song, which was premiered on March 4, had over 1 million views with over six thousand comments on video streaming platform YouTube within a period of just three days.
With this record, Yaw has become the first Ghanaian rapper to gain such a figure on the streams in three days.
However, the praises were short-lived as Ghanaians descended on him for deciding to rap in British accent.
He has been in the trends since Sunday. Many Twitter users trolled him and made fun of him.
“Stormzy Influence: Yaw Tog now raps in British accent, innit? Kumasi Migos koraa 3mba…” @Ebenezer_Peegah tweeted.
“Yaw Tog has made himself available boys today drag him and they’ll do so with all their strength (laughs) What Freestyle is this? This boy paa ah oh daabi smh,” @ANKAMAGYIMI_ also tweeted.
Meanwhile, ahead of the weekend, Yaw was recognised as the April ‘BET Amplified International Artiste of the Month’.
This came barely two weeks after he won the Hip Hop Song of the Year award with his song ‘Sore’ which features Kumerican acts O’Kenneth, City Boy, Reggie and Jay Bahd.
Following this, BET International will be posting more works, interview and others of Yaw Tog across their social media platforms in the month of April.
“BET Amplified is our seal of approval on the next big thing in music,” the BET International post read.
