ABOUT 100 persons living with disabilities in the Akuapem – South District of the Eastern Region have received materials and cash from the central government as part of their share of the common fund.
Items received were corn, fridges, plastic chairs, popcorn machines, knitting machines and palm oil processing machines aimed at equipping them to earn a living despite their challenges, with some receiving undisclosed amount of cash.
The Aburi district chief executive, Frank Aidoo, in his speech noted that the items purchased were from the fund with support from central government to enable the beneficiaries to enter into viable economic ventures to earn a decent living.
Frank Aidoo explained, “It’s always the best to teach the person how to fish and he will be able to fish for himself when you are not around. In view of this, disbursing monies to persons living with disabilities, as it was done in the past, is not the best. They have to be equipped economically so that they can fend for themselves. That is why the NPP government finds it expedient and prudent to buy items that will empower them economically’’.
The beneficiaries were encouraged to continue to fight towards achieving their dreams and aspirations despite the the fact that they are physically challenged. They were also advised to make good use of the equipment to the benefit of their families as well.
