TWO MALE illegal miners have died after they were accidentally trapped in a deep mining pit on Saturday morning.
The third illegal miner, who is also male, sustained life-threatening injuries. He survived the dangerous accident and has been hospitalised.
The gory incident, reportedly, happened at Odumase, near Konongo, the capital of the Asante Akyem Central Municipality, in Ashanti Region.
The bodies of the two deceased illegal miners, whose identities are not known, have since been deposited in a mortuary for preservation and autopsy.
According to eyewitnesses’ reports, the illegal miners usually storm the community, which is rich in gold deposits, to mine for gold.
As usual, on Saturday, a group of male illegal miners invaded the area, descended into an abandoned mining pit and started digging for gold.
According to reports, the pit, which is said to belong to a certain mining company, suddenly caved in on the hapless miners and killed two of them.
The sad incident attracted scores of curious people to the scene, who managed to rescue the trapped miners, and conveyed the bodies to the morgue for autopsy.
