In a shocking turn of events, the Ghana Police Service has confirmed that two of its personnel were fatally shot by unknown gunmen in the Trassacco Valley area of Accra on Thursday, May 2, 2024.
According to the police statement, the incident occurred around 6pm as the off-duty officers were sitting in front of their private residence in the Block factory area of East Trassacco. The gunmen, who arrived on a motorcycle, opened fire on the unsuspecting officers and fled the scene without taking anything.
“The Ghana Police Service is on a manhunt for two gunmen who fatally shot two off-duty Police officers sitting in front of their private residence at Block factory, East Trassacco, Accra, today Thursday 2nd May 2024 at about 6:00 pm,” the statement read.
The police have assured the public that an “intelligence-led operation to get the suspects arrested is currently ongoing.” They have appealed to the public to come forward with any information that could aid in the investigation and apprehension of the perpetrators.
This incident has sent shockwaves through the community, as the safety of police officers, even when off-duty, has come into question. The Ghana Police Service has vowed to leave no stone unturned in their pursuit of the suspects and to ensure that justice is served.
