Nathaniel Johnson
The Group Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Supreme Hospitality Limited and Experts Consult Limited, Nathaniel Johnson, says the hospitality and professional home management services space alone has great employment potentialities to absorb over 10,000 employees annually.
Making his remarks after entering into partnership with David Tiki Dange, an independent parliamentary aspirant for the Damongo Constituency, to deliberately prioritise the employment needs of his constituents, Mr. Johnson said, “Our studies and experience have shown that should government seriously commit itself to help entrepreneurs create jobs in this sector, we could empty Ghana’s streets and communities of the teeming unemployed youth.”
According to him, with the implementation of the Free Senior High School (SHS) programme, a lot of SHS graduates who are unable to enter tertiary institutions are joining JHS dropouts on the streets. “This is very dangerous because they certainly will find something to do if we do not get them anything meaningful to do to absorb their energies,” the CEO added.
“In their frustrations and hopelessness, they resort to alcohol and drugs like tramadol and others which are draining their God-given talents. More frightening is the security implications of this growing phenomenon. We’ve got to do something about it urgently,” he stressed.
Mr. Johnson said that as an entrepreneur, he is committed to solving problems and one of the major challenges of the nation that gives him sleepless nights is the growing youth unemployment.
Citing lack of government support for companies like his, he said, “We cannot do it alone. We need government’s support to expand and patronize our services. We need Members of Parliament (MPs), metropolitan, municipal and district assemblies (MMDAs), etc. to partner with us to recruit, train and place their constituents.”
On his part, Mr. Dange promised to work with Mr. Johnson to solve the growing youth unemployment problem in his constituency.
