Afrofit participants exercising
Afrofit National on Saturday, January 27, embarked on its maiden health and wellbeing walk dubbed, ‘Embracing the New Beginning’s Edition’.
Speaking on the relevance of Health Walk, Executive Partner of Afrofit National, George Foster Baffour, indicated that the Afrofit Walk is a call on Ghanaians to cultivate the habit of walking for at least 30 minutes a day and more, to improve and maintain overall health.
“This is the main reason why Afrofit was launched some months back last year, to create awareness for the public to understand the relevance of exercising for a healthy lifestyle,” he said.
George Baffour also stated that the AfroFit Health Walk commences every quarter, adding, that these dynamic three-series health walk events emphasise physical exercise, unity, inclusivity, diversity, and healthy living.
Executive Producer, Afrofit National, Johnson Kwame Otoo, indicated that Afrofit National has a series of activities engineered to inspire the fitness agenda.
“A competition and an awards event coming soon. This fitness is an awareness creation, Afrofit is coming to stay, and I am entreating individuals and organisations to join the fitness group,” he said.
Representative of the Ghana Sports Authority, Christiana Ashley, said the authority partnered with the Afrofit National to encourage the habit of exercising for a healthy living.
“Exercising is a great way to improve or maintain your overall health. Doing this every day can increase cardiovascular fitness, strengthen bones, reduce excess body fat, and boost muscle power and endurance.
“It can also reduce your risk of developing conditions such as heart disease, diabetes, osteoporosis and some cancers,” she added
The Afrofitness National exercise was in partnership with the Ministry of Health (MoH), the Ministry of Youth and Sports (MoYS), the Ghana Bodybuilding and Fitness Association (GBFA) and the National Sports For All Association Ghana (NASFAAG).
