Mahama’s Lamentations Versus Bawumia’s Bold Solutions

Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and John Mahama

Interesting developments are unfolding on the campaign trail in the country.

Just about 48 hours to the polls, the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) led by John Mahama has decided to adopt non-conventional methods to work on the minds of the electorate.

The NDC has made the campaign a mind game, reducing the serious business of electioneering to mere propaganda, misinformation and palpable lies.

John Mahama has become a whining presidential candidate, always complaining about the challenges without offering the solutions to deal with them.

In a way, the NDC has worked on the less discerning electorate who have accepted the propaganda that the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) is the cause of our woes.

Encounter these guys in any public space and they parrot the claims by John Mahama that the country is hard and they point to the elementary logic of the NDC flagbearer that living conditions are high.

Nobody contests the fact that the country and its people are going through hard times, and the picture is not different in so-called advanced economies. To reduce the debate of high cost of living to the very simplistic calculations of the exchange rate today as against 2016 and the price of cement without taking into account the dynamics, then that person requires some education on the economy generally. What is the minimum wage presently and the producer price of cocoa? And these dynamics expose the incompetence of John Mahama and others who think like him.

The issues being articulated by the NDC expose their lack of understanding of the development challenges facing the country. That is why John Mahama keeps whining about our challenges while Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia prescribes bold solutions to resolve our challenges, while admitting that there are issues that must be looked at to make life more comfortable for the citizens.

John Mahama’s mantra of resetting Ghana is predicated on the fact that the people are facing difficulties in eking a livelihood. He thus pretends to be concerned about the high cost of living when he failed miserably to fix just one major challenge, ‘dumsor’, during his tenure as President.

John Mahama insists Ghanaians have short memories and for which reason he encourages his people to continue to lie about the real situation in Ghana just for the sake of power.

No doubt, after more than 30 years of constitutional democracy, John Mahama continues to flaunt the dark revolutionary antecedents of the NDC like a badge of honour. That is why he proudly says the NDC cannot be outdone when it comes to violence, and it is for this reason that we have asked the voters to stop John Mahama from coming nearer to the corridors of power.

Indeed, the irresponsible and even discourteous responses to the challenges of the governance process, which he spewed while he was president, continue to feature in his faltering campaigns. There is no doubt that former President John Mahama has not learnt lessons from Ghanaians’ refusal to give him a second term as was extended to his predecessors and his successor President Akufo-Addo.

It is our considered opinion that putting John Mahama in charge of the national kitty again is to say that in our country, state thievery is the norm. We have not forgotten about the inflated costs of projects during his tenure, and we have also not forgotten about the dishonourable Government Official One tag that beams light across the globe. Is there any wonder that the NDC does not have any dearth of cash and party paraphernalia for the John Mahama campaigns?
