President Nana Akufo-Addo
GOVERNMENT INTENDS to build an airport to serve the Central and Western regions in the country.
The decision was taken after a careful evaluation of the viability of the project.
This is contrary to earlier promise by the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) that it will build an airport in Cape Coast.
At a meeting with the chiefs and elders of the Oguaa Traditional Council at the Jubilee House yesterday, President Akufo-Addo stressed the need to site the airport between Cape Coast and Takoradi since an airport in each of the two regions cannot generate the needed traffic and make it financially viable.
This was in response to a call by the Paramount Chief of Oguaa Traditional Area, Osabarima Kwesi Atta II for government to honour its promise to build an airport in Cape Coast.
President Akufo-Addo noted that the current proposal he has been briefed on by the Minister for Transport, is the building of an airport that will meet the travel needs of both regions instead of constructing two airports, that is, one in each region.
Pledge to Build Airport
On October 18, 2021, during a visit to the Central Region, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo reiterated his promise to build an international airport in the Central Regional capital, Cape Coast.
So far, he said all is set for the project to take-off since feasibility studies are near completion.
The President reiterated his pledge to renovate the Philip Quarcoo Boys Primary School, which is the first basic school to be established in Ghana by the colonial administration in the then Gold Coast.
He noted that the Minister for Education, Yaw Adutwum, is fully seized with the decision to renovate the school and same will be carried out.
