The kid’s tournament winners with their medals
Amateur golfer James Akwaboah has dethroned Ghana’s number one golfer Vincent Torgah to emerge tops in the 5th edition of the Captain One Charity Invitational Golf Tournament at the Royal Golf Club in Kumasi last Sunday.
The Nsuta Golf Club member was a sensation over two days as he recorded a total score of 72 to top over 100 pros and amateur golfers to clinch the ultimate trophy, medal and GH¢5,000 worth of voucher.
He was followed by last year’s winner Torgah who recorded a score of 74 (losing to the winner with just two points) and received a trophy, medal and GH¢2,500 voucher for his efforts while Daniel Affum also scored 76 points to settle for the third position and walked home with trophy, bronze medal and GH¢1,500 worth of voucher.
The event began with the kid’s tournament on Friday as part of Captain One Society’s Deprived Kids Golf Project which had children from the Safe Child Advocacy Care Home in Kumasi and the Angel of Hope Orphanage Care Home forming the Junior Members Club to participate in a competition.
Jennifer Sature emerged the overall winner after showing great skills on the golf course with Ayisha Aminu coming second and also winning the Longest Drive prize.
President of Captain One Golf Society, Pius Ayeh Appiah, commended the winner for his efforts, especially beating Ghana’s top golfer and other top golfers to the ultimate prize.
“These show that there are numerous talents in the country that could excel if given the platform and that is what Captain One has done over the past five years,” he stated.
He added, “We are committed to developing golf and making it an avenue for people to earn a living at all levels from playing, coaching and other aspects of the game.”
He expressed appreciation to sponsors including iGimel Sports Wear, Servaco PPS, RK Cliste, Industrial Procurement Service (IPS), Flo Polo Designs, Mosak Photography, MIcan Company and all golf clubs in the country for supporting the initiative and looking forward to great support and sponsorship for next year’s event and beyond.
The President of Ghana Golf Association (GGA), Mike Aggrey, commended Captain One for the outstanding competition which sets the tone for an exciting year of golf.
A very overwhelmed James Akwaboah (winner) said he had worked very hard for the trophy and would do well to go professional and defend the trophy next year.
He called on corporate Ghana and individuals to come on board to support Captain One in subsequent competitions as it would go a long way to help raise the standards of the game in the country.
