The Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) has donated assorted items to the Atewase M/A Basic School.

The company has also donated solar panels to about 60 residents of Atewase to help support the learning of students in the deprived cocoa-growing community.

Among the items presented to the school last Friday were clothes, shoes, slippers, chocolates, exercise books and pens.

The donations formed part of COCOBOD corporate social responsibility and its Child Education Support Scheme.

Speaking at a ceremony at Atewase to present the items, Deputy Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the COCOBOD in charge of Agronomy and Quantity Control, Emmanuel Agyemang Dwomoh, observed that COCOBOD had over the years undertaken initiatives to improve the living standards of residents of cocoa-growing communities.

He said such initiatives included road construction, building of school blocks, among others.

He noted that the solar panels were to help the students of Atewase learn at night.

Atewase is a community within the Kwahu West District of the Eastern Region.

The Headmaster of Atewase M/A Basic School, Eric Acheampong, who received the items on behalf of his outfit, thanked COCOBOD for the kind gesture.

In attendance at the short but colourful donation ceremony were officials of COCOBOD, the Chief of Atewase, Nana Frimpong Siaw, students and residents.
