A 26-year-old suspected armed robber, Richard Kwabena, was arrested Sunday morning by some irate youth of Techiman Blue Cross in the Brong-Ahafo Region and handed over to the police for allegedly snatching a ladies’ handbag containing some cash, in a house.
One of the victims, Safiatu Iddrissu, 20, told the police that Kwabena came to their house at about 1:30 am wearing a face mask and snatched a bag containing GH¢651. According to her, the suspect pulled out a locally manufactured short gun and threatened to kill anyone who would raise an alarm.
She said as a result, everybody kept quiet as he bolted with the bag. However, one of her sisters, who was then in a room, raised an alarm and some youth around gathered courage, combed the area and arrested him.
Chief Inspector Kinsley Augustine Oppong, who briefed DAILY GUIDE on the issue, praised the efforts of the youth for not taking the law into their hands as they did not lynch the suspect. He said by exercising their civic responsibility, they had done well and asked other members of the Ghanaian society to emulate their shining example.
