ESTATE DEVELOPERS have indicated they are ready to sell off their properties at cheaper rates to enable them pay off their debts.
Sammy Amegayibor, Executive Secretary of the Ghana Real Estate Developers Association (GREDA), who disclosed this recently in Accra while speaking at the launch of the annual GREDA Housing Fair.
He said the decision by players in the sector to offload their properties at low prices was the only solution to make them have some peace of mind from their creditors.
He said even though the sector was growing at a faster pace, players were saddled with debts since a lot of buyers could not out-rightly pay for the properties compared to previous times when most buyers paid fully for properties.
It is estimated that Ghana’s annual housing deficit now stands at two million.
Meanwhile, GREDA has indicated it was awaiting a response from President Nana Addo Dakwa Akufo-Addo concerning a proposal it presented to him to build 20,000 houses every year.
“We
actually met the President himself last year around April and we had a frank
discussion where the President eventually tasked GREDA to try and come up with
affordable housing.
“He tasked us to come up with a proposal that
could develop a minimum of 20,000 houses a year,” they said.
According to GREDA, it is yet to receive a reaction from the President.
