President Akufo-Addo
President Akufo-Addo has assured that football will return in the country as soon as practicable.
Football activities have been suspended in the country since March due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Expectant club owners and footballers were on Sunday disappointed when the President failed to mention the sport’s return in his 15th Covid-19 address.
The situation, which has had a telling effect on players and stakeholders, has necessitated meetings between government and club owners.
Club administrators, in recent times, have expressed worry about government’s continued ban on football despite easing Covid-19 imposed restrictions.
The P resident told Takoradi-based Skyy FM that the absence of football in the country has negatively affected him.
He has consequently pleaded with the football fraternity to remain calm as government continues to consult to find the best way forward for football’ return.
“Everybody knows I love football and the suspension has also affected me but it will be back very soon,” President Akufo-Addo told Skyy Power FM.
He added, “I don’t want to do anything that will hurt Ghanaians. I believe in one step at a time so gradually football will be back.”
A tentative date of October has been fixed for football’s return.
