The General Secretary of the Industrial and Commercial Workers Union (ICU)-Ghana, Morgan Ayawine has appealed to the government through Metropolitan, Municipa, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) to create a congenial work environment for hairdressers and beauticians in the country.
He said this can be done through measured tax assessment of the operation of GHABA to enable them to stay in business.
The General Secretary made the appeal when he delivered the keynote address at the official opening of the 7th quadrennial delegates’ conference of Ghana Hairdressers and Beauticians Association (GHABA) on Tuesday.
It was on the theme, “Leveraging modern technologies to drive a positive change in the hair and beauty industry.“
According to Mr. Ayawine, GHABA contributes immensely to the growth and development of the informal sector through the training of its operatives and equipping them with skills in the hair and beauty industry.
“The impartation of the knowledge in hair and beauty industry to the youth, especially females, to acquire employment skills, has saved many female youth from the temptation of waywardness and also lessened the unemployment stigma plugging the country,” Mr Ayiwine explained.
Touching on the theme of the conference, Mr Ayawine urged operators in the hair and beauty industry to take advantage of technology to enhance service delivery so as to conform to global standards and also stay relevant in the industry.
He further implored the citizenry to be cautious of their utterances and actions before, during, and after this year’s presidential and parliamentary election in order not to breach the peace of the country.
“We must also be cautious in our utterances and actions before, during and after the elections, so as not to breach the peace that we all so much cherish and which is a pre-requisite for development of our country,” Mr Ayawine said.
He also pledged ICU-Ghana’s continuous support to GHABA in all spheres of their activities.
