Ghana’s Black Stars On Crucial AFCON Qualifier Against Niger

The Black Stars of Ghana have departed for Morocco ahead of their second group game of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Niger.

The team left Kumasi on Friday evening, with all 24 players called up for the tie, which is expected to be a crucial one for the Black Stars following their defeat on the opening day.

Ghana lost to Angola at the Baba Yara Stadium on Thursday, falling to a late strike from substitute Milson.

The defeat was also the Black Stars’ first loss in Kumasi in 24 years.

After the first round of games played, Otto Addo’s side sit third in the group with no points, while Angola and Sudan are joint-leaders in Group F.

The game against Niger, which has been moved to Berkane in Morocco, is scheduled for Monday, September 9.

The Black Stars will be looking to bounce back from their defeat against Angola and get their qualification campaign back on track.

The team’s departure for Morocco marks a critical moment in their AFCON qualification journey. With the stakes high, the Black Stars will be looking to put in a strong performance against Niger and secure their first win of the campaign.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) moved the game to Berkane due to security concerns in Niger.

The decision has been met with mixed reactions, with some criticizing the move and others welcoming it as a necessary measure to ensure the safety of the players and officials.

Despite the challenges they face, the Black Stars remain confident in their ability to qualify for the AFCON.
