Ing Nana Poku Agyeman
The Director of Urban Roads in the Kumasi Metropolis, Ing Nana Poku Agyeman has advised the public to always engage the services of qualified engineers for their projects to ensure value for money.
According to him, engaging qualified engineers would also help to prevent accidents and destruction of property.
He said certified engineers have been given the requisite training to provide professional services to their clients and the public should tap into their expertise.
The Urban Roads Director gave at the advice at the 51st Annual General Conference and Meeting of the Ghana Institution of Engineers (GhIE), held at the KNUST campus in Kumasi under the theme “Engineering-Key To Advancing Sustainable Development Goals.”
The outgoing President of GhIE, Ing. Leslie Alex Ayeh for his part, said the group was working to eliminate all quack engineers from the system.
According to him, engineers are major stakeholders in nation building, therefore it was time engineers occupied their proper place in the nation building process.
“It is GhIE’s desire to remain relevant in the governance and the transformational processes of our country,” he said, adding that “Ghana is going nowhere without engineering.”
He therefore called on all stakeholders to learn, strive and steer the vision of the institution to enable it achieve all its set goals to help accelerate the country’s development.
The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, in a speech read on his behalf, tasked engineers in the country to contribute their quota to help eliminate poverty and hardship from the society.
The Minister for Works and Housing, Francis Asenso Boakye, assured that his ministry would give the needed support and resources to empower engineers to deliver.
