Washington 2018, the president announced and launched to the world that 2019 was going to be tag-lined ‘The Year of the Return’ for Ghana. At that event, President Akufo-Addo said, “We know of the extraordinary achievements and contributions they [Africans in the diaspora] made to the lives of the Americans and it is important that this symbolic year—400 years later—we commemorate their existence and their sacrifices.”

At World Remit we have to applaud President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for this laudable event and initiative. The Year of Return will be driving thousands of people to Ghana this December – creating new experiences. Diasporans will have the opportunity to reconnect with their family and friends which for some, they have not seen in many years. For us at World Remit, family, friends and these meaningful connections are close to our heart as we understand and appreciate the importance of these special moments.

Over the years, World Remit – a leading, global digital remittance company has witnessed our customers using remittances for more than basic care and education for their loved ones back home. We are seeing trends in those in the diaspora using the platform to build homes and support friends and family with their business start up and operation.

With all the festive activities taking place, traveller’s can be encouraged that they can use the World Remit app whilst on holiday’s to receive funds from their loved ones in their times of need. The World Remit app and online service has been proven as a faster and easier way for loved ones to receive funds, with over 75% of mobile money transactions paid within 10 minutes or less.

In addition, with more pay-out options than our competitors, we are poised as a leading money transfer solution for our customers on the continent.

We would like to congratulate Ghana on executing the Year of Return initiative and extend a warm welcome to our global family returning from around the world.
