George Appiah Kubi
Veteran Ghanaian actor George Appiah Kubi, popularly known as Paa George, has debunked rumours circulating on social media claiming he was dead.
Reports suggesting the celebrated screen icon was dead began making the rounds online, with some social media users sharing condolence messages and wishing him eternal rest.
However, Paa George has firmly dismissed the reports, stressing that he is very much alive. Speaking to blogger Deprincegh, the veteran actor expressed surprise at the false claims.
“Haven’t you seen what’s circulating online? People are saying I’m dead. Hasn’t it shown up on your end yet? Some are even going as far as wishing me rest in peace,” he said.
Born on May 10, 1937, Paa George is one of Ghana’s longest-serving screen personalities. He began his acting career in 1963 and rose to prominence through the popular Concert Party tradition, where he performed alongside notable figures such as Agya Ntow, Bob Vans, Lord Bob Cole and Appiah Agyekum.
He was also a member of the Ebibiman drama group, further cementing his legacy in Ghana’s theatre scene.
In the 2000s, Paa George experienced a resurgence in mainstream popularity within the Ghanaian film industry, starring in numerous productions alongside actors including Agya Koo, Mercy Asiedu, Nana Ama McBrown, Kyeiwaa, Michael Afranie and Bill Asamoah.
His clarification has since reassured fans of the veteran actor’s enduring presence in the industry.
