International Group ‘Not Banned From Fertilizer Distribution’

The Managing Director of Intercontinental Group Ghana Limited, Nashiru Sulemana, says the company has never been involved in any fertilizer smuggling activity in Ghana.

He said the company has not been banned from distributing fertilizers under the “Planting for Food and Jobs” programme contrary to media reports.

The name of the company came up following news of a supposed attempted smuggling of some 4000 (25kg) bags of fertilizers into Burkina-Faso through Paga in the Kassena-Nankana West District.

Speaking in an interview with DGN Online, the Managing Director said the company was a distributor and has no importation contract with government yet and so cannot be part of a list of companies banned by the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA).

According to Mr. Suleman, the Regional Directorate of Food and Agriculture and the Regional Minister, Paulina Abayage in their earlier interviews after the two trucks with fertilizers were impounded erred, and therefore wanted the impression to be corrected, especially when the Minister of Food and Agriculture, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, has exonerated the company from any involvement in a fertilizer smuggling.
