As the nation prepares for the general elections in December, the Judicial Staff Association of Ghana (JUSAG) has urged its members to remain impartial and stay away from political influence.
JUSAG National President, Samuel Afotey Otu, who made the call, said as the elections draw near, members must continue to work within the tenets of their duties to safeguard the independence of the judiciary.
“I want to assure our members that everything is under control and this year we are hoping for better things,” Mr. Otu stated.
“This year is an election year and we (JUSAG) want everybody to take his or her work seriously. Nobody should be influenced by any political party… We’re ready to work, we’re ready to deliver our task,” the JUSAG president added.
He said this at the end of JUSAG @ 50 health walk in Aburi in the Eastern Region.
Scores of JUSAG members including registrars, recorders, clerks, administrators, and some members of the bench among others took part in the health walk.
The walk which started from Ayi-Mensah and ended at Peduase Lodge was part of activities lined up to celebrate JUSAG’s golden jubilee.
He said the work of judicial staff should be tactful in such a way that, it will safeguard the independence of the judiciary.
Mr. Otu who led his members to engage in aerobic session said he was very satisfied with the participation.
“I think Judicial Service work is always (about) sitting down…and it is not good for our health,” he acknowledged.
He, therefore, urged that, “at least once in a while we should do such programmes (health walks).”
He said the call for regular exercise also resonates with the Chief Justice’s call for a united front using sporting activities.
Staff from far and near including members from Sogakope in the Volta region and Bongo in the north also took part in the health walk which underscored the importance of the need for unity in purpose.
“We expect every staff to participate in all the activities because our vision is stronger together,” Mr. Otu charged
The Greater Accra regional chairman of the association, Ramsey Ahorklui, said there are more activities lined up for the celebration.
According to him, other activities such as games, floats, health screening and symposiums will also be undertaken.
The health walk was to improve the physical fitness and well-being of members, bond with fellow JUSAG members in a fun and healthy environment and de-stress and recharge.
Some of the participants shared their separate experiences saying the exercise should be made a regular activity.
