Officials of KATH and Guandong Province People’s Hospital officially signing the MoU
The Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi has reached a partnership agreement with a top medical facility in China, Guandong Provincial People’s Hospital (GPPH), to significantly improve healthcare delivery.
The two hospitals have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to share expertise in specialized areas in the coming years to ensure mutual benefit for citizens of both countries.
The two hospitals would cooperate in the areas of endocrinology, cardiovascular medicine, nephrology, dialysis and cardiac care, among others,
Per the agreement, GPPH would support KATH in diverse ways to enable the latter to offer quality healthcare to patients.
Under the agreement, GPPH would offer opportunity to KATH staff to train and also help establish the nephrology, heart and dialysis centers.
The Chinese hospital would also donate equipment and surgical consumables to KATH and assist KATH in the area of telemedicine.
The GPPH would also invite medical personnel from KATH to attend top class academic conferences of medical sciences in China in academic exchange.
They would designate some specialists to carry out dialysis treatment and management of chronic kidney diseases, among others.
On the other hand, KATH is also expected to prepare for the establishment of nephrology, dialysis and heart centers and also carry out other key tasks.
The MoU was signed between the two hospitals on April 8, 2019, and it would expire when the party from China completes the project in Ghana.
Significantly, the Chinese party cannot terminate the agreement without prior notice to KATH, a copy of the MoU sighted by the paper, revealed.
