John Mahama
The Electoral Commission (EC) has officially declared the presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) as president-elect of the Republic of Ghana.
John Dramani Mahama obtained 6,328,397 votes representing 56.55% of the valid votes cast, while his main rival, the presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia also obtained 4,457,304, representing 41.61%.
Chairperson of the Electoral Commission and returning officer, Jean Adukwei Mensa, who announced this at the National Collation Centre at the headquarters of the EC yesterday, said the Commission arrived at the decision having collated the presidential results from all 16 administrative regions, of which 267 of the 276 constituencies were captured.
The EC indicated that although it has not received the results from nine constituencies because some of its offices have been besieged by political party supporters, making it impossible to complete the collation process, the presidential results from the 267 constituencies, including the newly created Guan Constituency, the winner of the 2024 presidential election could clearly be established.
“Simply put, even if all the votes from the 9 constituencies were added to the candidate who placed second, it would not change the outcome of the election,” she said.
She stated that John Dramani Mahama of the NDC obtained 6,328,397, representing 56.55%, while Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of the NPP obtained 4,657,304, representing 41.61%.

The nine constituencies include Awutu Senya East, Dome-Kwabenya, Techiman South, Ablekuma North, Ahafo Ano North, Nsawam-Adoagyiri, Akwatia, Suhum and Damongo.
“I have the singular honour as the returning officer of the 2024 presidential election to declare His Excellency John Dramani Mahama as the winner of the 2024 presidential election and the President-elect of the Republic of Ghana with a total percentage of 56.55%. Congratulations, sir.
