Seth Kwame Acheampong
EASTERN REGIONAL Minister, Seth Kwame Acheampong, has expressed his appreciation to President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, describing him as an honest person who always honors his promises.
This follows the approval of an amount of Three Hundred and Fifty Million Euros (€350,000,000.00) for the construction of a bridge over the Afram River and the construction of 124-kilomenter of roads from Adawso-Bunso, Ekye – Amanfrom and other specified roads within the Afram areas by Parliament of Ghana.
The Minister said this when the media in the region called on him at his office.
He gave assurance that he would make sure that together with the chiefs and technical staff, the needed support is offered to ensure a successful completion of the project.
Then President, during his campaign tour in 2016, promised the chiefs and people of Kwahu that his administration, when voted into office again, would construct a bridge over the Afram River to make transportation to that side of the country, a food basket, more accessible.
Kwahu Afram Plains has tremendous potential to contribute significantly to the improvement of the well-being of its inhabitants and the food security in the country as a whole, he added.
The objective of the project is to enhance productivity in the agriculture sector especially the Afram Plains and improve the socio-economic activities in the area.
Responding to the spate of armed robberies, and also the clashes between Fulani herdsmen and farmers, as well as members of the communities, Mr Acheampong said he was engaging with the Regional Police Command, the chiefs, opinion leaders, and other stakeholders to map out measures to combat those.
He was, however, worried that some herdsmen have blatantly refused to send their animals to the ranches established by the government even though state resources have been invested in the project.
He indicated that whiles stakeholders’ engagement was ongoing to ensure lasting solutions, ‘Operation Cow Leg’ would continue to operate in that area to provide security and ensure sanity.
On the decongestion of Koforidua, the regional capital, Mr Acheampong encouraged all the assemblies in the region to apply their by-laws to ensure that the streets were sanitised so that people could go about their duties freely and peacefully.
He was optimistic that with extensive engagements with the people and various sensitisation programs, the exercise would be successful after the Tasks Force has been deployed.
He, therefore, warned recalcitrant drivers, traders, both ‘Aboboyaa’ and ‘Pragya’ operators that, the laws would be applied without fear or favor.
