The Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service has cautioned motorists to strictly observe road safety regulations during the Christmas season.
MTTD officers in the Ashanti Region say the department will intensify enforcement operations, stressing that no offender will be spared during the festive period.
Speaking in an interview on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, the Manhyia Divisional MTTD Commander, Superintendent Mary Afenyi, reaffirmed the department’s resolve to uphold the law without fear or favour.
“Elsewhere, police officers are allowed to work and enforce the laws, but in Ghana, higher authorities sometimes compel officers to set aside the law and free offenders,” she stated.
“For us at the MTTD, we are here to enforce the law. We will not tolerate any form of pleading or begging from offenders,” she added.
Supt. Afenyi admitted that strict enforcement often attracts criticism from the public, but insisted that such reactions would not deter the police from performing their mandate.
“The public may tag you as wicked when you enforce the law to the letter, but that will not stop us from working,” she stressed.
She therefore urged road users to comply with traffic regulations to avoid confrontations with the police, and to help reduce road accidents during the Yuletide.
