The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Director of Communications, Yaw Buaben Asamoa, has stated that the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) is not a credible political alternative to the ruling government.
According to him, Ghanaians cannot seek refuge in the NDC to steer the nation out of present economic challenges, as Ghana looks to rebound from COVID-19, pointing out that ideas and management resources needed to cope and succeed will look different than before.
For him, the NDC has little appreciation of the modern ways of economic management, and therefore, cannot be trusted to salvage the situation.
Speaking on Citi TV yesterday, Mr. Asamoa insisted that the NPP is better positioned to bring Ghanaians out of the current condition, asserting, “We believe we have done far better than the NDC in spite of the challenges, and that the NDC is not the solution.”
“We believe strongly that we are better positioned to handle the current modern challenges of public finances and economics. If you sit to reflect on what is going on in the world, you will know that the old ideological ways of dealing with economics has been dumped.
“The metrics for managing these situations are entirely different from the old-fashioned, orthodox ways, and we, the NPP government, are in a good place to appreciate these things and support the people to ride over the current challenges,” he argued.
The NPP Communications Director said the party is determined to break the eight-year cycle of changing government, adding, “I sense a growing maturity among the Ghanaian voter population.”
“We are heading into our 9th election, and the records show that anytime the NPP comes to power we bring forward innovative programmes. The NDC is unable to sustain these when they take over,” he indicated.
He added, “It is time we put on hold the back and forth with the eight-year cycle. It has done us a great disservice, and it is not making politics sustainable,” Mr. Asamoah posited.
Various government functionaries, including Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has stated categorically that the governing NPP will break the eight-year election cycle in the country, with a victory in the 2024 polls.
Addressing the Central Regional Tertiary Students Confederacy (TESCON) conference in the University of Cape Coast on August 8, 2021, Dr. Bawumia said this would help sustain the socio-economic gains that the Akufo-Addo administration has achieved.
According to him, this will be dependent on the NPP’s commitment to accelerate socio-economic and infrastructural development across the country, and the various social intervention programmes that are transforming the lives of all Ghanaians under the leadership of President Akufo-Addo.
He added that President Akufo-Addo is determined to hand over power to another NPP regime, hence his unwavering commitment to working tirelessly at all times to make sure the party succeeds in governance.
The Vice President said the NPP is determined to build upon the solid foundation it had laid, and as well complete all innovative initiatives in fulfillment of its 2010 manifesto pledge, and mentioned some of them as the Free Senior High School, banking sector clean up, Nation Builders Corps (NABCO), One Constituency One Ambulance, public sector employment, digitalisation, among others.
