COCOA BUYING company, Nyonkopa Cocoa Limited and BC Ghana Limited have donated coronavirus (Covid-19) relief items to cocoa farmers nationwide.
The items worth US$25,000 were presented to the Ghana Cocoa Board on Wednesday, for onward distribution to cocoa farmers.
These include 300 Veronica buckets, 300 tissue rolls and liquid soaps.
Managing Director of Nyonkopa Cocoa Limited, Dr. Joshy Varkey and MD of BC Ghana, Charity Sackitey, made the presentation to COCOBOD.
Chief Executive of COCOBOD, Joseph Boahen Aidoo, received the items on behalf of farmers.
Nyonkopa Cocoa and BC Ghana are subsidiaries of Barry-Callebaut Group, global player in the cocoa value chain.
In a short remark to present the items, Ms Sackitey pointed out the importance of hand washing. She also noted the critical role farmers played in ensuring the survival of the cocoa sector.
She observed how hand washing is a basic preventive measure for Covid-19.
Mr. Aidoo thanked the companies for their kind gesture.
He said government was working to break the chain of the Covid-19 spread and so the best strategy was to practice hand washing.
He encouraged farmers to regularly wash their hands especially under running water.
He stated that the donations were in solidarity with what government and COCOBOD had been doing to fight the virus.
He urged other corporate entities to come forward and support what the government was doing.
