Okada Leadership Deny Supporting NDC

John Mahama

The national executive committee of the Ghana Motor Riders Association (GMRA), Okada, have taken exception to a media report claiming that the membership of the association has thrown its weight behind former President John Mahama.

A press release by the association explained that “a gathering on May 31, 2024 at Ashaiman was facilitated by some alleged sponsored National Democratic Congress (NDC) riders to engage the presidential candidate of the NDC, John Dramani Mahama (JDM). The NDC motor riders, reportedly, declared their support for the presidential candidature of the NDC candidate under the pretext of the Association.”

The association expressed surprise at the rate at which the NDC-sponsored group “hurriedly for the second time, declared its support for JDM.”

These same NDC-sponsored NDC riders, it would be recalled, held a press conference at Ashaiman to throw their support for the candidature of former President John Mahama during the primaries of the NDC.

The executives of the association expressed worry that this is happening at a time they have plans to engage with the candidates of the political parties to find out their plans for okada riders.

“It has been agreed also by the National Executive that all plans as presented by respective presidential candidates would be assessed to determine which one of them is in the best interest of the Association,” the riders’ leadership stated.

In view of the preceding points, the executives have asked that “all should disregard any declaration as the event was purely “an NDC organised affair.”
