The 1999 year group of Presbyterian Boys’ Senior High School (PRESEC), Legon has cut the sod for an Artificial Intelligence (AI) lab for the school to enhance students’ learning experiences.

Speaking at the sod-cutting ceremony held at the premises of the school, the chairman of the 1999 year group, Nana Owiredu Wadie I, Kwahu-Nkwatia Nkosouhene (development chief), said the project which would be commissioned in August ahead of the school’s speech and prize giving day will have an online library facility, a smart lab, maker space, robotic centre and conference room.

That, according to him, will enable students to explore, create and develop independently, serving as an invaluable tool given the ever-changing pace of technology and globalisation.

Wonder Madilob, President of the 1999 year group, for his part, said the project which is expected to be completed by August 2024 ahead of the school’s speech and prize giving day slated for November 2024, will also provide opportunities for all students irrespective of their programme of study, to make scientific enquiries using technology.

While thanking individuals, corporate members and the year group for their immense support towards the project, he said the AI lab would also prepare students to appreciate the use of AI in the world of work, especially at a time when jobs and businesses are being driven by AI.

Headmaster of the school, David Odjidja, commended the year group for their support and also appealed to other year groups to emulate the example of the 1999 year group, while assuring the former students of management’s commitment to continuously collaborate with others to support the school.

The headmaster further advised the students to desist from acts that have the tendency to undermine the reputation of the school and utilise such investment made for them.

A former student and businessman, Ernest Ofori Sarpong, Global President of Old Students Association of PRESEC, who pledged to support the school, commended the group for their support and expressed appreciation to other year groups for their continuous assistance towards improving the welfare of students.

He also appealed to past students both in Ghana and abroad not to hesitate to support the school.

Apart from the chairman of the 1999 year group, Nana Owiredu Wadie I, who donated GH¢250,000 towards the project, other members of the group including Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Member of Parliament for North Tongu also donated towards the project.

Also present to show their solidarity to their contemporaries was the 1999 year groups of Wesley Girls and Aburi Girls Senior High School.
