President Akufo-Addo To Pick 6th Honorary Doctorate Degree From UHAS

The University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) has announced its intention to confer an honorary Doctor of Science degree (honoris causa) on President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, in recognition of his remarkable contributions to science education in Ghana.
This brings the number of honorary doctorate degree conferred on the President to six after receiving the fifth honours over the weekend from the Valley View University, Oyibi.
The prestigious ceremony is scheduled to take place on July 29 at the University’s Cedi Auditorium, Main Campus in Sokode-Lokoe.

In a press release issued by Maria Gwira, the Director of Public Affairs at UHAS, it was revealed that the decision to bestow this honour upon President Akufo-Addo was approved by the University Council.
The accolade is in acknowledgement of the President’s unwavering leadership in advancing science education accessibility across various sectors in Ghana.

President Akufo-Addo’s pivotal initiatives such as the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy, his emphasis on STEM education, and the successful completion of the UHAS China-aided Phase 2 Expansion project have significantly contributed to this recognition.

UHAS, known for its focus on science disciplines, specifically credits the President for aligning educational policies with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG 4).
Notably, the implementation of the Free SHS policy in 2017 has played a critical role in making secondary education accessible to all Ghanaian students, alleviating financial burdens on families.

The establishment of several STEM-focused Senior High Schools nationwide as part of the President’s educational agenda has also been highlighted as a significant stride towards fostering excellence in science-oriented learning environments.

Furthermore, UHAS expressed deep appreciation for President Akufo-Addo’s instrumental role in expanding the university through a collaborative effort with the Chinese Government.
This partnership resulted in a $60 million project, encompassing the construction of key facilities such as the Central Administration complex, the largest School of Nursing and Midwifery in West Africa, and a cutting-edge Simulation Centre.

The completion of this expansion initiative is poised to increase student capacity at the University by a projected minimum of 2,500 students.

In closing, the statement from UHAS congratulated President Akufo-Addo on this well-deserved honour and extended sincere gratitude for his enduring commitment to advancing science education and educational infrastructure development in Ghana.
