President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has cut the sod for works to begin on about 200 kilometres (km) of roads in the Ellembelle District of the Western Region.
According to the President, the move is, amongst others, to honour the first President of Ghana, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, who hailed from the area.
The President said it was not the best to see the roads in the Ellembelle District, particularly the one from Esiama to Nkroful, the hometown of Kwame Nkrumah, in a deplorable state while successive governments didn’t show any concern over the situation.
Addressing the people of Ellembelle at a durbar at Teleku-Bokazo, President Akufo-Addo said he took pride in doing such projects to honour Ghana’s first President, Dr. Nkrumah.
The President, who was in the Western Region for a one-day working visit, cut the sod for the construction of 30.2-km Teleku Bokazo-Salman-Anibil Junction feeder road and 20-km Teleku Bokazo-Asasetre-Anyinase feeder road.
The rest were the 19.4-km Asasetre-Akropong-Gyampre Junction; 15-km Adubrim-Ayawora-Aspaneye; 20-km Santaso-Asomase-Baseke, and 38.16-km Santaso-Aidoosuazo-Kwesikrom-Prestea Nkwanta feeder roads, all in the district.
President Akufo-Addo told the people that roads which were under construction in the area by his government were not roads being constructed in a ‘green book’.
He assured the people that the roads would be completed and would be visible for all of them to see.
The President gave an assurance that his government would honour every promise it made to the people.
He said the NPP administration has made a lot of investments in the district than any other hence the need to vote ‘Four More For Nana’ to do more and for the first time vote for the NPP candidate, Kwasi Bonzoh, who is the DCE of the area.
Roads and Highways Minister Kwasi Amoako-Atta indicated that government was working on 80 new road projects in the region and another 25 are to be initiated soon.
He mentioned that while much of the work would see the construction of new roads, others would be upgraded to bitumen surfacing.
Awulae Amihre Kpanyili III, Paramount Chief of Eastern Nzema Traditional Area, commended President Akufo-Addo for fulfilling his promises to the people.
He called for the establishment of a community mining project, the construction of the Atuabo Harbour and a district hospital.
He appealed to all Ghanaians to preserve the country’s peace before, during and after the elections and urged politicians to avoid confrontations, which had the tendency to destroy the country’s relative peace.
