The government is likely to impose restrictions on movements if the current increasing spread of the virus is not halted.
Information Minister-designate, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah addressing the media in Accra yesterday said the government will also not hesitate to ensure stricter enforcement of Legislative Instrument and imposition of other restrictions.
“There is a possibility of a lockdown and other restrictions. If this trend continues, then yes that is where we are heading. I have to be very clear on that one that more restrictions could be introduced if this trend continues.
We are being reminded that we all need to be doing the things we were doing, in the beginning, to ensure that this third rise is quickly dealt with because the dynamics of this third rise appear to be different from the first one. So especially if these numbers go up this way then just like the President himself articulated, then we are heading for more restrictions even if it means reviewing some Legal Instruments, yes that is where we will be heading”, he said.
Cases
Director General of the GHS, Dr. Patrick Kuma-Aboagye speaking at the Covid-19 press briefing in Accra said the total number of confirmed Covid-19 cases have increased to 62, 135 from the previous 61,489 after 644 new cases were recorded.
He said fatalities linked to the virus are also increasing steadily with the GHS recording five more deaths in its latest case management update.
The deaths linked to the virus have risen from 367 to 372 with an active case count of 3,613.
He also indicated that the virus has again spread throughout the country with all the 16 regions having active cases.
However, some 58, 150 persons who were undergoing treatment for the infection have recovered according to the GHS.
According to Dr. Kuma-Aboagye, 745,095 Covid-19 tests have been conducted in the country.
He said three cases of Covid-19 have been recorded in schools since it was fully reopened last week.
