Robber Shot Dead In Gun Fight With Police

A FIERCE gun battle between police and five suspected highway robbers on the Kumasi-Bibiani road has resulted in the death of one of the hoodlums, the police has said.

The remaining four suspects managed to flee the scene, but they are believed to be nursing gunshot wounds, so hospitals nearby and the public have been alerted to be on the lookout.

The suspects had stopped two vehicles, fully loaded with passengers, at gunpoint around 7:30pm on June 2, 2025, and they were about to rob them when the police arrived at the scene.

“Upon sighting the police, the suspects armed with the pump action gun, opened fire on the patrol team,” a police statement, signed by DSP Godwin Ahianyo disclosed.

“The officers responded swiftly, returning fire and fatally wounding one of the suspects, who was later confirmed dead by a medical doctor at the Afari Government Hospital.

“The remaining four suspects fled the scene and are currently at large,” DSP Ahianyo of the Ashanti Regional Police Public Affairs Department announced in the report.

About the four runaway suspects, he said, the police believes that the “fleeing suspects may have sustained gunshot wounds,” as a result of the fierce gun battle with the police.

“The Police are therefore appealing to all medical facilities and practitioners to be on the lookout and report any persons presenting with gunshot injuries to the nearest police station,” he added.

DSP Ahianyo disclosed that the body of the deceased suspect has since been deposited at the Afari Government Hospital morgue for preservation and further investigation.

He praised the Nkawie Patrol Team for their bravery and professionalism in swiftly responding to the situation and averting what could have been a tragic incident, and called for public support for the police.
