Chiefs in the newly created Western North Region will take strategic approach to exploit the region’s natural resources and other reserves within the region to finance some developmental projects.

The Western North Region can boast of cocoa, timber, bauxite, gold, bamboo, among others.

President of the Western Region House of Chiefs, who is also the paramount chief for Sefwi-Anhwiaso Traditional Area, Ogyeahoho Yaw Gyebi II, stated that the chiefs had resolved to dedicate substantial resources to promote the development of the region.

He indicated that the traditional authorities would vigorously pursue investors to transform the region’s resources to create wealth.

Speaking to journalists, the Omanhene said, “You know that we have the resources, all that is left is to have the investors both local and foreign to take them up.”

He mentioned that timber, cocoa husks and the waste from the bauxite mined since 1940 and other resources, for instance, could be transformed into other useful products, which his people could benefit from.

Ogyeahoho Yaw Gyebi admitted that the aspirations of the people would be met with a lot of challenges, but “the most important thing is that we have to unite and then identify opportunities for the establishment of industries to support our development.”
