Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, has asked executives of the party to remove Alan Kyerematen’s branded items from all its constituency offices in the region.

A memo issued and signed by the regional chairman, popularly called Chairman Wontumi, on Monday, September 25, 2023 directed all executives at various constituencies to do so with immediate effect.

“In view of Alan Kyerematen’s resignation from the party, all his posters, banners, flyers and paraphernalia at our party offices in all the constituencies must be removed with immediate effect.

“Once he has forfeited his membership, it is just right and fair that these items are removed from our offices,” the statement added.

Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, on Monday, September 25, announced his resignation from the NPP citing issues of intimidation, monetisation as well as lack of meritocracy in the administration of the top hierarchy of the party.

He also alleged that individuals, elders government appointees among others have hijacked the party, describing them as “behind the curtain power brokers and unscrupulous party apparatchiks”.

Mr. Kyerematen, who was among the 17 aspirants that contested the 2007 presidential primaries in the lead up to the 2008 elections, also mentioned the similar difficulties his supporters had to endure when he lost to President Akufo-Addo in the flagbearer contest.

According to him, the level of intimidation and lack of a level playing field among other issues which the National Council of the party had failed to solve, has compelled him to resign to contest as an independent presidential candidate in the 2024 general elections.

“It is abundantly clear to me, that my services and contributions to the Party are not appreciated, and that my continuous stay in the Party will create further tension and division, which is an exact replay of circumstances that led to my decision to resign from the Party in 2008.

“Under the circumstances and given the context provided, I wish to use this platform to announce that I am honourably resigning with immediate effect from the New Patriotic Party to contest for the high office of the President of the Republic of Ghana in the 2024 General Elections, as an Independent Presidential Candidate,” Mr. Kyerematen stated.

Meanwhile, the National Organiser of the NPP, Henry Nana Boakye, in an interview on Joy FM, said members of the party who may be found supporting Alan Kyerematen’s candidature would forfeit the party’s membership.

But former Ashanti Regional Minister, S. K. Boafo, and Boniface Abubakar Siddique, former Member of Parliament for Madina, are among some of the party bigwigs who have publicly declared their support for Alan Kyerematen.
