Constituency chairmen of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) have strongly denied allegations made by Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong that they received bribes from Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia ahead of the party’s Special Electoral College election on August 26, 2023.

Agyapong, an NPP presidential hopeful, claimed that each of the 275 constituency chairmen were given GHC100,000 in addition to a pickup vehicle by Dr. Bawumia before the last polls.

Responding to these claims, the chairmen released a statement stating that Agyapong’s allegations are “false, baseless, and calculated to soil our integrity.”

They emphasized their commitment to working diligently to ensure that a suitable presidential candidate is elected to lead the party.

They further assured party executives and members that their integrity remains intact and cannot be compromised.

The statement urged all party members to ignore the unsubstantiated claims and called on the candidates to focus their campaigns on issues rather than resorting to insults and false allegations. The chairmen emphasized the importance of unity within the party and urged everyone to channel their strength and energy towards electing a candidate who will lead the party to victory in the 2024 general elections.

The constituency chairmen signed off the statement, reaffirming their loyalty and allegiance to the New Patriotic Party and expressing their commitment to upholding the party’s constitution.

They called on all ranks and files of the party to remain focused and united in their quest to break the eight-year cycle.

The NPP constituency chairmen encouraged their fellow party members, supporters, sympathizers, and all well-meaning Ghanaians to disregard the baseless allegations made by Kennedy Agyapong.

They concluded the statement by expressing gratitude and a plea for continued blessings for their homeland Ghana, and proclaiming their dedication to the great NPP.
