A groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of a two-storey court building has been held at Breman in the Suame Municipality of the Ashanti Region.

It is the first court building for the new town after its creation.

The project, which is to be undertaken by Cephil Company Limited, will cost the Municipal Assembly GH¢899,600 and is being funded from the District Assemblies’ Common Fund (DACF).

Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Dr John Osei Bobie Boahin, said the court building is expected to be completed in six months.

According to him, the project consisted of one court room, two offices of Alternative Dispute Resolution, judge’s chamber, two offices of registrar, cashier office, secretary office, docket room and eight washrooms.

The construction works will be done in two phases, and will begin as soon as possible, he noted, adding that the Assembly was committed to see its completion within the scheduled time.

Member of Parliament (MP) of the area, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu, stated that the court, which will have jurisdiction over Suame, Tafo and some parts of Kumasi, will bring timeous adjudications on most criminal matters including summary offences such as stealing, assault and possession of drugs.

It will again deal with civil claims, the MP indicated, and praised the auto mechanics who sacrificed their livelihoods to pave way for the construction of the court building.

Chief of Breman, Baffour Kutin Sraman urged the Assembly to ensure that the project gets to completion within the time period in order not to attract encroachers.

According to him, the land was initially earmarked for a police station, but the exigency of time has made it imperative to use it for the construction of a court building.

He believes the court building will be as useful as the police station and will benefit all and sundry.
